I had my 2.5 cm acoustic neuroma removed in July of 2004 at House Ear Clinic and have had nothing but severe and debilitating pain at and above the incision site ever since.
The tinnitus in the affected ear is horrendous. The House doctors have basically "pooh-poohed" me and have taken the postured position that "we never had a patient with such severe pain before and we have done thousands of these..." Now I go to this site and I see that bone cement can be part of the problem, or cranial herpes or a host of other things that none of the doctors have even mentioned. I am on a high dose of painkillers and I manage. I work through the pain and do the best I can day by day. However, I am so angry that no one told me to expect this kind of pain and that the House doctors have basically written me off. I am on the waiting list for the Mayo Clinic but am interested to learn about other AN patients with debilitating pain that just won't go away. This pain is with me 24/7. I have tried nerve blocks, biofeedback, acupuncture, and rubbing Ben Gay on my head but nothing helps. Can anyone suggest a place to go where a doctor has ACTUALLY HEARD OF POST-AN HEAD PAIN and perhaps can help??? |
